The 2016 DeckHardware Team Sailing Nationals got underway in Goolwa, South Australia this morning with 24 teams from around the country vying for the overall honours.

The weather has been cold and windy on the southern Fleurieu Peninsula however it looks like conditions will moderate throughout the four days of racing.

Tasmania’s Hutchins School won the national championship last year

Hutchins School head in as the reigning champions after taking out the championship in Brisbane last year, however schools such as Brisbane’s Iona College, Hobart’s Friends School, Adelaide’s Westminster and Port Lincoln’s St Joseph’s School will all be competitive.

A number of all-girls teams are also competing this year and will be up against each other trying to take out a special trophy for the best performing female team.

Schools have traveled from all corners of the country with Tasmania sending six teams, the home state of South Australia represented by five teams and even a team making the trip from the nation’s capital, Canberra.
