The first 3 races of the 2017 16ft Skiff Nationals, hosted on the famous location of Lake Illawarra on the south coast of New South Wales, have provided testing conditions across the 36-boat fleet.

There were light and tricky conditions on the first two days, however sailors then licked their lips as a classic Lake Illawarra nor-easter pumped in to take sailors into the lay day.

On the leaderboard it’s Southern Beaches Rugby from Belmont leading the way with a slender three-point lead ahead of pre-regatta favourites Fire Stopping from Manly. Currently in third place is the TJS Services team, also from Belmont.

On Handicap, Pepsi Max holds a handy lead over Dunno while in third place is Toro.

Here’s to hoping the nor-easters hang around on the Lake, for the sailors’ sake. There is no doubt this will go down to the wire with any boats in the top 10 capable of winning a heat.
