After a challenging day on the water for the first day of the Musto SA Schools Team Sailing Championships at Port River, Adelaide, reigning champions Westminster sit atop the ladder with five wins from as many races.

Although the Swiss league system, which is designed so the better performing teams race each other more often over the course of the event, has not fully worked itself out yet, the top group looks to be a snapshot of the potential group vying for finals positions.

With Westminster the only team undefeated, they are only narrowly ahead of their second team, St Joseph’s 1, St Joseph’s 2, St Peter’s 1 and Immanuel A, who are all on four wins.

With a full day of racing tomorrow and only a half day on Saturday, there is no doubt it will be very close as they reach the business end of the Swiss league racing, before going into the finals series.

The top two all-female teams, which come from Concordia and St Joseph’s, are both locked on three wins apiece at the moment, which will no doubt be a close battle heading into tomorrow and Saturday.

Racing starts at 9am tomorrow and will continue right through until the late afternoon, with Saturday’s racing stopping at about lunch time before a finals series for the overall championship is held.

Down Under Sail will be live streaming the entire finals series on the afternoon of the final day so be sure to tune in via Facebook Live for the coverage.
