2018 International 14 World Championships – Day 7

A1856 – International 14 World Champs 2018 – Day Seven – Race Six from VR Sport Media on Vimeo.

Foggy and light breeze on the San Francisco Bay for the penultimate race of the 2018 International 14 World Championships where the discard/drop came into force.

After a general recall, the sixth race started with the Australian skiff team, Mark Krstic/ James Lanati starting with the main contenders at the pin end but boxed in, where they took the risky decision of clear air and tacked off to go right. It paid off with them rounding the windward mark in first place and lead to the finish. This was a great turnaround for the Aussies after being holed in Race Five having to leave the course and retire.

The main battle ensued with Borkenstein/ Dietrich eventually taking second place from Daniel Holman/ Knight desperate to make a big points difference between themselves and the Partingtons. But the British fought their way after a bad start through the fleet taking place after place bringing themselves up to third and in a dominating position overall. Dad’s arm around his son on the finishing line has repeated many times over the regatta.
