What a weekend!
What a ripper the weekend was! Perfect sun, perfect wind, perfect swell conditions!
We had an absolutely awesome time with everyone at Lancelin for the 2017 Lancelin Ocean Classic on the weekend.
Friday saw some epic waves for both the Windsurfing and Kitesurfing Competitions.
Winds were up around 20knts and swell well over 2 meters, which turned Lancelin Beach and Back Beach into a playground for adrenaline seeking Classic surfers.
Check out some pics on the Facebook page below.
The results are now on our Website for all Wave competitors.
Saturday morning the sun was out in full force, with the wind kicking in just after lunch, bringing perfect conditions for the Ledge Point to Lancelin Marathon.
Over 200 competitors cruised down to Ledge Point, prepping their gear for what was an incredible race of endurance and speed. Paddle joined the race for the second year, bringing Ocean Skis and SUPs to the 10km course. The distance was no issue for 9 year old Byron Martin, who competed in the Double Ski paddle with his father, David.
It was neck and neck between the Kitesurfers and Windsurfers throughout the course, with Kitesurfer Alty Frisby, pipping Windsurfer Steve Allen to the post and coming across the line as the first competitor on Lancelin Beach. Allen took out the Windsurf Marathon race for the 5th time, beating Patrik Diethelm, who ironically designed the hollow board Allen was riding.
All in all it was a bloody ripper of a weekend, we honestly could not have asked for better conditions and better competitors.
A huge thank you to all who made the 2017 Lancelin Ocean Classic possible, all of our amazing volunteers, who gave us countless hours of their time; the communities of Ledge Point and Lancelin, who have been supporting and cheering on this event from it’s inception 32 years ago; the Lancelin Volunteer Marine rescue, Lancelin Cray Boats and Mounts Bay Sailing Club for being our eyes on the water; JetSports West, Windsurfing WA, WA Kitesurfing Association and Canoeing WA for their decades of knowledge and of course helping us with event logistics on the weekend; Tourism WA, the Shire of Gingin and all of our incredible sponsors. Least of all, thank you for making this one of the best years yet, we can’t wait to see what’s in store for 2018!
