Westminster School has taken out yet another South Australian Secondary Schools Team Sailing Championship after a 3-1 victory against the Westminster second team in the Grand Final this afternoon, hosted by the Goolwa Regatta Yacht Club.
The event was sponsored by Coorong Quays Hindmarsh Island – a great spot to keep your boat if you’re ever visiting this remarkable region of South Australia.
The Westminster 1 team showed great consistency throughout the afternoon and took the express lane to the Grand Final when they beat Westminster 2 in the opening round of the finals.
Westminster 2 then had to take on the home town heroes Investigator College for the final spot in the Grand Final after Investigator made quick work of Concordia College to progress through.
It was then the training battle again in the Grand Final and although Westminster 2 managed to steal a win from their more senior team mates, they eventually fell to a 3-1 defeat, with Westminster 1 crowned the state champs yet again.
In the all girls division final, Walford School managed to have both of their teams in the final, with the number one team coming away with a commanding victory winning the best of three series 2-0.
The scenes at Goolwa were simply perfect for the spectators as hundred of sailors, friend and family members lined the club’s marina wharf to get up close to the action.
Well done again to all the volunteers and officials who make the event happen and did a fantastic job of organising a brilliant event.
