With four out of the six races now in the books, things are starting to heat up on the scoreboard at this year’s Teakle Classic Lincoln Week Regatta.
Yesterday’s race was a short passage race out to the Lincoln National Park where sailors were greeted by a barbecue from the Rotary Club of Port Lincoln and a bar set up on the beach by the Port Lincoln Yacht Club.

One of the features of the Port Lincoln race week, Megga’s BBQ is named after a legend of the Port Lincoln Yacht Club, Megga Bascombe, who lost his life a few years ago.
The barbecue named in his honour gives every sailor, friend, family member, volunteer and race official the opportunity to experience some of Eyre Peninsula’s most amazing terrain with a lay-day like feel to it while still being able to get a quick race in.
It sets up a big day tomorrow with two more races around the cans in Boston Bay to finish off what has been an extremely successful regatta week.
Division 1
Ichi Ban, skippered by Matt Allen, is steaming home to a Division 1 IRC victory in Port Lincoln after another IRC race win in the Megga’s BBQ race yesterday.
His team sits on three points with a picket fence scorecard after the first drop, followed by Geoff Boettcher’s Secret Men’s Business in second on seven points and Andrew Corletto’s Shining Sea in third on nine points.
On PHS in Division 1, Ichi Ban is in the lead however only marginally with a one-point lead over Shining Sea in second and Jason Ward’s Concubine not much further behind in third.
Division 2
Jason Coonan’s Doctor Feelgood 3 had a day out yesterday with race wins in IRC and AMS and a second place in AMS, setting his team up for a quick finish in the regatta week.
Rob Date’s Scarlet Runner 11 was second on IRC yesterday, followed by Richard Harries’ Magic in third, while Alan Woodward’s Reverie still maintains the overall lead ahead of Magic and Scarlet Runner 11.
In AMS, Scarlet Runner 11 and Magic were second and third respectively in yesterday’s race, with Magic holding a slender one-point overall lead ahead of Scarlet Runner 11 in second and Magic in third.
Scarlet Runner 11 took the race win on PHS, followed by Doctor Feelgood 3 in second and Paul Martin’s The Tribe in third, with Scarlet Runner 11 ahead on overall PHS ahead of Derek Morrison’s Sintara in second and Magic in third.
Division 3
A great day out by Dan Haynes’ Poco Loco has seen him slip up the leaderboard in Division 3 IRC with a win yesterday putting he and his team into second overall.
He was followed by Murray Mackay’s Doesn’t Matter in second and Jonathan Newbury’s Sextant in third, with Doesn’t Matter maintaining a strong overall lead ahead of Poco Loco in second and Adrian Wotton’s School’s Out in third.
On AMS it was a day out for the Port Lincoln mentor boats with Simon Turvey’s Born to Mentor and Matt Stephens’ Lincoln Mentor having a toe-to-toe battle in the race to Spalding Cove.
Born to Mentor took the race win by 23 seconds on corrected time to Lincoln Mentor followed by Doesn’t Matter in third place.
Doesn’t Matter maintains the overall AMS lead, followed by Born to Mentor in second and Lincoln Mentor in third.
On PHS, Steve Emery’s Ocean Hawk had a great race win followed by Roger Jepson’s Whereswal11 in second and Jonathan Newbury’s Sextant in third.
Doesn’t Matter still leads PHS overall followed by School’s Out in second and Born to Mentor in third.
Division 4
The race to Megga’s BBQ threw up a few tricks for Division 4 with a few small changes to the overall standings.
Bill Van Riet’s Mighty Fine Lyons managed a great race win on PHS to push his team up the standings, followed on corrected time by Hugh Longbottom’s Academy 1 in second and regatta leader Phil Kelly’s Steeple Jack in third.
Overall, Steeple Jack maintains the lead ahead of Academy 1 with Mighty Fine Lyons slipping into third overall after a great race yesterday.
Caillin Howard’s Etchell, Stretch, slipped to fourth overall but maintains its lead over the other Etchell in the fleet, Paul Henshall’s Mystery Taxi which is sixth in the 10-boat fleet.
Thursday
The final day of the Teakle Classic Lincoln Week Regatta will be held today with two more races around the cans and the presentation night to follow at the Port Lincoln Hotel.
