With the fifth Cape 31 recently arriving in Australia the Cape 31 Class are excited to announce the first National Championships Down Under! A big achievement for the guys who have been working on getting the class started.
The teams will be racing one design at Hamilton Island Race Week from the 17th to the 24th August with shared shore logistics, Cape 31 party and an open day for those interested in checking the boats out! Looking forward to 2025 the class hope to get together for some great one design racing, made easier by the fact that these boats transport so easily – either by tilting trailer or in a 40ft container!
Kukukerchu owned by David Ross showed strong form at last years Hamilton island in The Super 40 division, 1st ORC and 2nd on IRC. They also recently won the NSW ORC State Champs. Australian Class President Julian Newton recently won IRC at Lincoln Race week, South Australia’s premier regatta, with his boat Game On 31.
There are two boats based in Fremantle, Western Australia, Alan Stein’s team on Dirty Deeds and the newest Australian team Mirko Moeller’s Green Arrow. They have competitive racing in the Super 30 fleet and are motivated to get up to speed prior to the nationals.
B4 is currently chartered by a competitive Sydney based team who are no strangers to Hammo or competitive racing.
David Ross and Oliver Scott Mackie have recently teamed up with 31 North Yachting to take the class and sales to the next level in the Australia. This alongside the recent acquisition of the New Zealand team will strengthen the class down under – we hope to see a large fleet of Cape 31’s in Australia and New Zealand.
